CANCER IS SERIOUS, FUNDRAISING SHOULDN'T BE
Welcome to Give Cancer the Finger. What started as a few friends shaving mustaches into the back of our heads (because anybody can grow them on the front) has now turned into an unstoppable fundraising machine!

The Problem

Cancer has been said to be its own language

Cancer care is provided by the Provincial Health Authority (PHSA) at five regional sites across British Columbia. The cancer clinic at Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops is considered a level IV satellite location. This means that some services are provided but not all. People living in Kamloops requiring cancer care must travel to Kelowna, Prince George or one of the regional sites in or near Vancouver. The electronic medial charting used by PHSA is different to that used by Interior Health.

Health care practitioners seeing the patient in Kamloops do not have access to information about therapies or interventions received by PHSA. It is up to the patient to know all this information and communicate it to all health care providers to receive comprehensive care. Cancer has been said to be its own language. Due to the emotionally heavy nature of the diagnosis of cancer, people report not being capable of remembering the details.
